Osun varsity leads new trend; adopting innovative matriculation

Date:

The hallmark of great business organizations is the ability to adapt to changing environment. While most government-sponsored tertiary institutions in Nigeria are seen as laggards, innovation-wise, Osun State University seems to be different. To ensure the academic year of its students are not completely disrupted by the partial lockdown, the school innovates to matriculate new entrants online.

The state University has held yet another Online Matriculation for its 418 fresh post graduate students making it the first institution to have organised online matriculation for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The Online Matriculation

The Online Matriculation ceremony which held at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium of the Osogbo Campus of the University, started with the Registrar of the University, Mr Gafar Shittu, inviting the Provost of Postgraduate college, Professor Bayonle Olorede to present the matriculating students.

The oath of Matriculation was thereafter administered by the Registrar and thereafter students are expected to sign, scan and send the oath to the official email made available in their mail.

Addressing the fresh students, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Labode Popoola congratulated the new students and welcome them officially to the university.

He explained that the postgraduate studies started in the university in 2012 with 10 postgraduate courses, 4 professional masters courses and 4 academic masters courses.

The university is adding 44 courses to the post graduate studies, with 2 additional PH.D program proposed to National University Commission for review and approval, bringing the total number of courses to about 80.

Professor Popoola admonished the students not to see postgraduate education as an educational centre but an academic field with deep root in the core university values of teaching, research and service to the community.

He also encouraged the students to be of good conduct and not to associate with any form of vices that may damage their image or the reputation of the university.
