Three (3) ways to position for AI recommendations

Date:

Artificial intelligence is evolving fast as a tool for planning, reasoning and making decisions. I read about someone asking ChatGPT for clues on the best city for retirees. The artificial intelligence (AI) platform did a good job. It recommended cities cited in a study compiled by a research publication.

Tasking AI to make actionable recommendations is becoming a trend. A growing percentage of the market segments are relying on AI tools to access recommendations through targeted simple and complex prompts ranging from how to choose the best budget airlines, where to find the most trusted and rewarding real estate firms, what wines work best for a fun party, how to locate a tax consultant in Lagos, amongst others.

The increasing pivot to AI for important recommendations positions it as a super-agent that must be understood and adopted to optimise visibility for products and services. As it stands, we finally have an improvement to the long-standing SEO pathway to expanding the sales funnel.

AI capabilities are growing due to continuous investments in its language models. As it expands, so will its attractiveness and usefulness. There is evidence already. A survey published in July 2025 revealed that 75% of users trust AI performance and 85% of enterprises plan to use AI to some extent before the end of the year. Precisely, AI agents will be relied on to carry out 15 to 50% of business tasks through automation before the end of year 2027.

Those survey statistics already portray the future of AI as a business valuable agent. Tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Co-pilot, Algolia, Browse AI etc. will keep growing in relevance at least for the foreseeable future.

AI relies on content training driven by a large amount of data set, books, websites, amongst others, for learning. It develops from such learning patterns to adopting natural language processing (NLP) which help the systems to make sense of prompts and provide responses to users’ prompts.

Back to where we started. You may like ask what happens to your online visibility when a potential customer asks AI to recommend a tested and trusted research firm that can deliver accurate report in Nigeria. Or a real estate firm with consistent impressive ROI performance etc. While SEO will provide website referrals, AI can create a script comprising mentions, motivation and references for users to make a choice. It can automatically qualify or disqualify a firm base on information available to it.

Here is the point. What information is available to AI about you and your business? So, let’s provide three points that can help you find favour with AI recommendation:

  1. Provide enough online content about your business – Optimise visibility for your business by churning out fresh online news articles, Op-Ed, video testimonials, useful posts and third-party endorsements/ comments about what you do, what you have done, what you have accomplished etc.
  2. Factor in AI comprehension pattern – Ensure your content is conversational, answers questions and provide responses to natural human queries. You want to think about how your business would fare if someone asks AI for recommendations about “where to spend the night on a low budget and with lots of fun.”
  3. Be consistent with your messaging – Craft a suitable messaging that ties into what your target market looks for and ensure consistency in amplifying that message across platforms such that it will help AI see the credibility, and trustworthiness of your claim.
