Organized community-based organizations are rising to the challenges of taking care of economically vulnerable indigenes greatly impacted by ongoing lockdown. In Osun state the Inisa Youth Initiative (IYI) and Inisa Descendant Union (IDU), comprising sons and daughter’s of Inisa town, recently distributed over N700, 000 worth of relief packages which include two hundred 10kg bags of rice, two hundred 10kg bags of Semovita, and stipends to the vulnerable ones in the community.
The lockdown which began three weeks ago across select sections of the country is taking its toll on the global economy. As developed economies are facing depression there is a growing fear that emerging and undeveloped markets will fare worse. Hence, well-placed citizens are rising to the challenge of complementing government efforts in mitigating the gruesome effects.
The President of the Inisa Youth Initiative (IYI), Pastor Bayo Dahunsi while giving the motivation behind the Initiative said, “We decided to contribute our own quota to the community as an organization to support the needy ones in the community.”
He added that, Also, one of the daughters of the community in diaspora Mrs. Taiwo Toyinbo-Ojo through her NGO, Given-To-Give Initiative, is supporting the community with 200 bags of 10kg rice and a cash donation of N100, 000.
The Asiwaju of Inisa land, Professor Labode Popoola during the visit and handing over of the relief package stated that the local organization, IYI, was initiated by himself and childhood friends over 20 years ago and has since blossomed into an incredible community development outfit which contributes to the growth and development of the community.
He explained that the relief package was distributed among families instead of individuals. About 85 families have benefited so far.
His Royal Majesty Oba Joseph Oladunjoye Oyedele, Fasikun II, JP in his response sincerely appreciated the efforts and contribution of the Inisa Youth Initiative led by Pastor Bayo Dahunsi as well as the unwavering love and support of the Asiwaju of INISA, Professor Labo Popoola to the community. He appreciated Inisa descendants union led by the chairman, Engnr Aderemi Bello.
He stated that the contributions of these associations are timely and needed as majority of the community members have their source of income disrupted by the lockdown.
He prayed for continuous blessing of God over every member of the associations and specially appreciated Mrs Taiwo Toyinbo-Ojo, a daughter of the community in Diaspora that supported the cause.
