The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Labode Popoola has highlighted the roles of people in the teaching profession as key to the development of the economy of Nigeria. Charging, graduates inducted into the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) from the College of Education, Ipetu Ijesha, on Tuesday, 26th of November, 2019, the professor explained that teachers are moulders of critical economic advantage in every country.

Professor Labode Popoola who was ably represented by his deputy, Professor Janet Olaitan, made the statement at the 3rd induction ceremony of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola auditorium, Main Campus of the university.


Addressing the students, he counseled, “As graduates of Osun State University, your four years of preparation for a teaching career has been that of equipping you with the requisite training to impart knowledge. Please note that, as a teacher, you are a life-moulder and an architect of the socio-economic, scientific and technological developments of any nation. You are also a social puritan whose lifestyle is primed to be an example while working assiduously towards contributing to socio-economic development in the society”.


“A good teacher must be imbued with such qualities as perseverance, hard-work and conscientiousness. He/she must be intelligent, focused and resourceful. He/she must have a sense of leadership. He/she must also have a large heart to tolerate others, aside from being a role model in society,” Popoola added.

The provost, College of education, Ipetu-Ijesha, Professor Ayo Hammed also advise the inductees to be honest, firm and compassionate. “Make sure that you are a lifelong learner. Nothing belittles more than teaching with an ignorant mind,” Professor Hammed added.
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Professor Olusegun Ajiboye who was ably represented by the Director of Professional Operation in TRCN, Mazi Adamu Bello thereby officially admit the graduates to the TRCN body having been found worthy in learning and character by Osun State University and having taken the teachers oath of allegiance.
